What is counted
Words are groups of characters separated by whitespace. Characters are Unicode characters: an accented letter or an emoji counts as one. Letters are Unicode letters in any alphabet - digits, punctuation and emoji are not letters. Lines are separated by line breaks. Spaces are literal space characters only; tabs and line breaks are not spaces.
Privacy
Counting happens on your device. The text is not sent anywhere.

How the counts work
Words
Groups of characters separated by whitespace. “state-of-the-art” counts as one word; a number or a URL counts as a word too.
Characters
Every character in the text, including spaces and line breaks, counted as Unicode characters. Characters without spaces excludes all whitespace.
Lines
Lines of text separated by line breaks. An empty box has zero lines.
Spaces
Literal space characters only. Tabs and line breaks are counted under Characters and Lines, not Spaces.
Letters
Unicode letters in any alphabet - accented letters, Hebrew, Arabic and CJK characters all count. Digits, punctuation and emoji do not.
