TextCompareLab
Compare two lists: one item per line, see what was added or removed.
Swipe sideways to see both sides.
How to compare two lists
- Paste the older or reference list in List A and the newer list in List B, with one item on each line.
- Choose “Ignore case” if
Ana@example.comandana@example.comshould count as the same item, or “Ignore whitespace” if stray spaces should not matter. Then press Compare. - A line with a minus sign is only in List A. A line with a plus sign is only in List B. “Changed lines only” hides the items that did not change.
fills both lists with the guest list below and runs the comparison.
Example: a guest list
List A has ana, ben, carla, dan and eli. List B has ana, ben, dan, eli and fay. The result:
Carla was removed and Fay was added. The other three are unchanged.
Line order matters
The comparison is line by line, in order. It is not a set comparison, so it does not list “in A but not in B” regardless of position. If the same items appear in a different order, they show as moved: for example, apple, banana, cherry, date against cherry, apple, banana, date (one item per line) shows “cherry” added at the top and removed further down. To compare lists where order does not matter, sort both lists the same way first, for example with your spreadsheet or text editor, and then compare.
Limits
- It compares whole lines. A trailing space or different capitalization counts as a difference unless you use the options above.
- Duplicates are compared as lines in order. A repeated item is not merged or counted.
- It does not sort, remove duplicates, or produce an “only in A” or “in both lists” export. You can copy or download the marked result as plain text.
The comparison runs in your browser and the text is not uploaded. Use dummy data when you only want to try it out.
